Why Being Human is So Awkward Right Now

I started Myths of Creation as an clothing website and brick-and-mortar store based on affordability and serving a hyper-local group of people.
What I know now that I didn’t know then is that what I really wanted was to CREATE something from scratch that others could interact with and that would represent my perspective and also push others outside their comfort zone.
Since childhood, one of the things I have enjoyed is expressing myself through clothing—I think of my ancient ancestors adorning themselves in flowers and handwoven fabrics to celebrate life, to reflect the beauty in nature, and to have an outlet for their creativity in a daily way, one that sends a subconscious message to everyone who sees you.
What I learned in my shop was:
Giving with imbalance without asking for what you need in return is also our ego and unsustainable.
People tell themselves all kinds of things about what they can and can’t do, and believe these things as deeply true.
Some of us think we aren’t enough, so we put some product or concept in front of us because we aren’t really ready to offer what feels more true and what might be more innately valuable — but/and also - our self-worth is highly impacted by a culture that is obsessed with the value of things, a culture that takes advantage by encouraging us to feel empty so we will buy more things and work way harder.
Consciousness Shift
It is in my opinion that we are in the midst of a consciousness shift. The stars reflect this, and it is something I have sensed for a very long time. The more I gently remove the barbed wire fence around my imagination and what I was taught was sane and right, the more I sense and feel that I was born at this time for a reason... that we all were.
What does it mean when consciousness expands?
It means that the quality of complexity, nuance, and power within the energy of what we create seems to expand, change in tone and shift in paradigm.
To use astrology and history as an example,
The discovery of Uranus has often been connected with the French revolution, when the French attempted to “create an entirely new society, with new laws, weights and measures, calendar, and religion.” It is also associated with the discovery of aviation and electricity. In this example, we see a radical new reality being reflected in our technology, our perception, and even in the way we organize ourselves.
With Pluto (the planet of death, rebirth and absolute transformation) leaving Capricorn (systems, institutions and structures) and moving into Aquarius (humanitarian projects, technology and innovation), we are witnessing the withering of capitalistic greed, along with a concentration of wealth that is laughable.
I have often felt that many small business owners are simply displaced artists, ones who did not want to play the political game of becoming part of the art world’s elite machinery, and/or simply had to support themselves and pay for their lives in order to keep creating but felt totally averse to the incredibly strange world of corporate culture.
Why is it awkward?
It can be very awkward to exist as a business owner or human right now because the future potentials all hang in the liminal space, just waiting for us to choose, and there is no right way.
At the same time, we are standing on a moment where the old and outdated systems are part of our lives: we may be anti-consumerist but love a small brand run by an artist and really really desire the object that this human created.
We may seek freedom from the world of constant status-attainment that divides us in subtle but powerful ways, while also feeling a deep desire to create impact through a specific outlet, like a particular publication or gallery that is build in the old world’s model.
We may be sick of the onslaught of advertising, and yet have a message that we want to share. We may want our work to be accessible to everyone, while at the same time, have a deep knowing of how much work, education, effort, and money was spent to create something we hope will sustain us.
We may not believe in advertising jargon at all, and yet find that if we can’t articulate in a language others can speak, that we close the pathway to serving those we are meant to.
See, it’s awkward. I call it consciousness puberty.
We see a new world, we feel it. And yet our body reminds us of everything that has kept us alive until now. We know it is time to create in alignment with more possibility than we have ever imagined, and yet we have loved ones, clients and of course, our own subconscious that tells us staying within the realm of the known is what keeps us safe, when actually... it is expanding our belief in what is possible that keeps us truly alive.
